LEKKI/IKOYI BRIDGE CASHLESS POLICY: SANWO-OLU APPRECIATES MOTORISTS FOR SUCCESSFUL IMPLEMENTATION- ENCOURAGES COMPLIANCE

by korevibes January 18, 2020

Lagos State Governor Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has wholeheartedly commended motorists in Lagos for their role in the great success of the cashless tollgate implementation.

The initiative, which had the objective of removing bottlenecks at the toll gates, thereby impacting positively on the reduction of traffic queue length and journey times for Lagosians, has been widely praised over the last few weeks.

Speaking through his Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde, the Governor stated that the cashless policy which commenced on the cashless policy which commenced on 2nd January 2020, became necessary to address constant traffic gridlocks often experienced at that corridor due to slow process of cash payments at the toll plaza.

Mr Governor thanked the general public for their cooperation, during the implementation period and now with their compliance. He also strongly encouraged those who have not yet obtained their e-tags to ensure they do so as full compliance will be enforced now that the additional two weeks grace for motorists to align has elapsed.

It would be recalled that the State Government had last year announced that it would go cashless on toll payments at the Lekki/ Ikoyi toll plaza effective from 1st January 2020 due to the excessive delays experience along the corridor with cash payments.

The Governor has warned that from Monday 20th January, 2020 anyone who turns up with cash at the Lekki-Ikoyi toll gate would attract stiff penalty of N1,000 pending when they will get through with their cashless payment method.

The governor warned against any corrupt practices such as photocopying payment vouchers for multiple usage or presenting fake e- payment device, warning that the State Government would not hesitate to apply the law on any motorists that attempt to frustrate its effort at improving traffic situation along the Lekki Ikoyi Bridge corridor.

The Governor reminded the general public that the e-tags are free to obtain and widely available and as such, such sharp practices are unnecessary.

It would be recalled that the Managing Director, Lekki Concession Company Limited, (LCC) Mr. Yomi Omomuwasan highlighted four (4) seamless ways by which people could make their e-payments (Cashless) which according to him include; etag, the Vouchers system, the e- card and , the LCC Mobile App for top up.

The Managing Director added also that any Interested member of the public who may experience difficulty in registering could reach out to the company through any of these contact numbers: 07011753784, 07015838157, 08002255522 or customer@lcc.com.ng, promising that the company would work round the clock to ensure the success of the new policy.
